It measures the angles and proportions that were created in the diamond and how it releases its fire and sparkle.
It is the only parameter from the 4 c’s that is not determined by nature- it is determined by men.
The cut of the stone causes light to be dispersed and reflected between the facets. A well proportioned cut causes the highest sparkle and fire. The traditional round brilliant diamond is cut with 58 facets.
If a diamond is cut too shallow, light escapes through the bottom and the diamond is less brilliant.
If a diamond is too deep, light escapes through the side of the diamond, causing it to be less brilliant.
